Bio
†Sebastian Temple (1928–1997) was an influential Catholic liturgical composer known as a pioneer of the folk Mass. He grew up in South Africa and lived in London before moving to America and converting to Catholicism and becoming a Third Order Franciscan. Temple wrote songs that have remained immensely popular for both Protestant and Catholic worship, including “Take My Hands” and “The Prayer of St. Francis,” which was sung by the Westminster Abbey Boys Choir at the funeral of Princess Diana in 1997. An anthem of the Royal British Legion, “The Prayer of St. Francis” is usually sung at the Service of Remembrance at Royal Albert Hall, London, every November.
