Bio
David Hurd is a classically trained organist and liturgical composer based in New York City. Currently organist and music director at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Times Square, he was a longtime organist, director of chapel music and professor of church music at the General Theological Seminary in New York City. In 1977, Hurd became the only person to ever win first place in both organ performance and organ improvisation from the International Congress of Organists in the same year. In 2010, he received the distinguished composer recognition of the American Guild of Organists. Hurd holds honorary doctorates from Berkeley Divinity School at Yale, Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, Church Divinity School of the Pacific and the University of the South in recognition of his contributions to sacred music. His compositions include “Rise Up, Shepherd” and “I Was Glad.”
